Over 150 Injured in Kerala Temple Fireworks Mishap, Probe Underway
Over 150 people were injured, including eight critically, in a fireworks accident during the Kaliyattam festival at Anjootambalam Veerarkavu Temple in Kerala’s Kasaragod early Monday.
The incident occurred around 12:30 am, reportedly due to fireworks being stored too close to the display area, violating the minimum safety distance of 100 meters.
The district collector confirmed burns of up to 80% among the critically injured and noted that necessary permissions for storing fireworks were not obtained. Local authorities, including the district collector and police chief, are investigating the cause of the fire as the community rallies to support victims.
